Oh lord. We’re only a few days away from Cancer season, and this post is JUST hitting the blog… I apologize. My laptop received some sort of weird virus (I assume) a little under a month ago, causing my browsers to literally not work until recently. Therefore, I couldn’t even get on here to post which explains the back to back blog posts this week. Then, the browser stopped working without warning and I lost this entire completed blog post and had to start from scratch. At this point, let’s just get used to the fact I always have obstacles delaying me.
Gemini season was an interesting one for sure, but I’ll go into details about what’s been going on in a later post. I kicked it off celebrating one of my best friend Ryan’s birthday in the Poconos and am ending it with this post on the birthday of best friend from home (HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!). These two have taken me through some wild times separately, so let’s go figure out what is up with Geminis…
Gemini: May 21 – June 20
Symbol: The Twins
Element: Air
Quality: Mutable
Color(s): Light Green, Yellow
Ruling Star: Mercury
Greatest Overall Compatibility: Aquarius, Libra, Sagittarius
Geminis are the social butterflies of the zodiac. They have this magnetic charisma that draws people in, making them entertaining friends. They love to surround themselves with people (and rarely prefer being alone), chat endlessly, and meet new people at social events. With Mercury as the ruling planet, they are very talkative and rank communication high on their list of priorities in all relationships. They focus on intelligence, ideas, and communication meaning they live in the mind over in their emotions. Geminis love sharing ideas with friends, and their enthusiasm for socializing often creates a buzz of exciting or somewhat manic energy around them. You can often find them in a job that involves a lot of human interaction. As curious creatures, they always have questions to ask which makes them both fantastic at parties and networking events or tiring to be around if you’re more reserved.
Geminis often are full of knowledge, although their curiosity doesn’t always create the patience to have in-depth knowledge about all the topics they can discuss. But, their ability to strike a conversation with anyone about anything from new trends to more personal things makes them witty and entertaining catalysts in social settings. Being great talkers also helps them become mediators for sticky situations or misunderstandings. Their dual nature allows them to see all perspectives.
These Gems aren’t afraid to take risks because they are focused on the great payoffs. That means they love to travel because it allows them to experience new things, meet new people, see new places, and indulge in their curious nature for learning. Being both an air sign and mutable quality, Gems have an easily changeable personality. They don’t mind spicing up their lives with fun and bold changes or new adventures, causing them to seek many different types of mental stimulation. They cannot handle boredom and will always make their own fun. This makes Geminis great entrepreneurs, journalists, designers, and artists.
Gems change their minds frequently as their interests change or if they see a new perspective. It’s because Geminis live in the moment, so their moment to moment change makes them “two-faced.” In order to combat that, others need to remember Geminis only have one motive: to share their knowledge with those who cross paths wit them. Unfortunately, that brings us to another possible negative perspective of seeming superficial since they only have shallow knowledge of many subjects. This can make them seem inconsistent, overloaded with tasks, and lacking discipline to follow through leaving a trail of unfinished work behind them for others to clean up. Since they’re talented in expression, others think they often exaggerate and stretch truths to seem intelligent or interesting. Then when the situation no longer leaves them in the limelight of conversation, they leave without explanation, making them seem a bit selfish or rude. This helps them lose friends as quickly as they gain them.
In family and work, Geminis can be the glue that hold a group together. Aside from communication and creativity, Geminis will push others to step out of their comfort zones to approach a new project or idea. This can create friction for those who are more stable and less adventurous. It makes them seem pushy, deceptive, and cunning in a bad way. If their ideas are eccentric, this makes them seem straight up weird. In order for them to find harmony with friends, family, and teammates, there needs to be a mutual respect for and mix of their creativity and ideas with a more traditional or rigid structure.
HOW TO GET THE LOOK
I told you that I would step out of the more “wearable” looks and into something a little more adventurous! For the Gemini look, I embraced the opportunity for two looks in one (being they’re “two-faced”) while keeping the theme cohesive, making it true to Gemini nature.
NOTE: The base for all of these looks is going to be the same as I’m mainly focusing on the eyes for this lookbook series. The only real change will be the blush or highlighter I use for certain signs. I’ll be skipping the base from now on and going straight to eyes. If you’re curious to see what my base routine is, check it out in my Capricorn post.
The Eyes
Always prime your lids to start. For me, that’s covering my eyelids with foundation. For others, that’s using actual eyeshadow primer. For my right side (the lighter side), I used Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Armed and Gorgeous palette and Huda Beauty Obsessions Emerald palette to create the three color transition eye liner and lower liner. I used Access, Gold Trip, Coin, Top Secret, and VIP.
In the Huda Beauty palette, I used the bottom row.
From inner corner of my eye to the outside, I used VIP (in the corner), Access, Gold Trip, the right bottom shade and middle bottom shade in Huda Beauty palette in that order. I blended it together and added a very thin coat of mascara. I also kept the contouring and blush on this side very light and natural.
For the left side of my face, or the darker side, I used the same palette but mixed up the style. I smoked out my crease with Access and Agent before splitting my eyelid in a slight ying-yang shape. Gold Trip sits on the top half and the middle color in the bottom row of the Huda Beauty palette sits on the lower half. The right bottom shade of Huda Beauty blends the two together in the middle.
My left eye shape is actually a little different from my right, so I apologize if it looks crooked in some way. On this eye, I winged my liner and was generous with the mascara. I also had a heavier hand in contouring and adding blush.
Lastly to tie this two-faced look together, I used MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick on the lighter side and MAC Taupe lipstick on the darker side. Then I kept the lighter side hair more natural and let the darker side hair look more tousled and messy, much like most people’s dark side.
Speaking of dark side…
About Astrology: The Lilith Sign
Since we’re talking about a curious sign that doesn’t always dive into deep knowledge of topics, let’s talk about a particular part of astrology that often is not discussed thoroughly enough and that we really only know the surface of, the Lilith.
The Lilith, also known as the Black Moon, is your dark shadow. It expresses independence, emancipation, karma, darkness, temptation, soul, and allurement. Regardless of gender, it brings out the more feminine sexual goddess and temptress in you and defines that irresistible something about you that no one can quite put their finger on. The Lilith sign also tells you how you’ll act if you’re pushed too far, defining your self-destruct button. Lilith reveals sexual fantasies and your inner bitch. It reveals what others find in you that is dangerous, slightly demonic, and both mesmerizing and terrifying when it comes to creating or destroying.
My Lilith is actually in Gemini! This means I’m a little tricky swindling little devil. In terms of curiosity, I’m open to new things and fantasize about trying something a little more unconventional. It also means I am likely to be a dirty talker. People are drawn to me because I give off a catch-me-if-you-can attitude that makes them fearful of me running off with their heart (although if they know me, my Venus in Pisces often throws my heart at them immediately). If someone presses my button, I’m known to rain painfully sharp words on them until they learn their lesson and see that I’m right. If I’m not 100% right, I have a way of using my words to shift it in my favor, leaving my opponents confused when the resolution of a fight leaves me with the upper hand.
If you’re curious to know what your Lilith is, run your birth chart at CafeAstrology and then check out this website afterwards for a brief description.
So…who was Lilith? In Mythology, she was the devil’s companion and an evil seductress. She destroyed men and was an enemy to children. But in another legend, Lilith was Adam’s first wife before Eve. She was too independent and sexually liberated and therefore demonized by Jewish lore for her wild ways. This may be why Lilith represents the untamed female (taboo) sexuality and power not hindered by marriage or children. Going in line with that, Lilith is also the natural ruler of magic and witchcraft.
But when it comes to astrology, the Black Moon is actually a mathematical point in space. It’s some dark invisible center of gravity that pulls at the moon as it goes around the earth. It aligns with the moon once a month when it’s furthest away. Astronomically, Black Moon Lilith is a mathematical point in space. It is a center of gravity pulling the moon as it goes around Earth. It aligns with the moon once a month when it is furthest away. It takes just under 9 years for the Lilith to complete one full revolution around the zodiac.
That’s all for now, mes chéries! I hope you enjoyed this belated Gemini post, astrology lesson, and the more artistic makeup tutorial. Until next time, bisou bisou…
