OOTD: Stony Spring

OOTD: Stony Spring

Bonjour, mes chéries. I hope you are all enjoying the weather of early April wherever you are. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster temperature-wise here, but I’m currently not complaining about the rise into the 70s this week. With the inspiration of cherry blossoms drifting in the crisp breeze across my campus, I felt like channeling the beauty of budding blossoms with this outfit of the day.

In this OOTD, I paired a taupe shift dress with a pink champagne duster, OTK boots, and a rose gold necklace. If the duster is ever too much, the look is equally feminine with a burgundy/baby pink/eggshell mini tote bag.

To be honest, I was skeptical about pairing two colors from a very similar color family together in one look. But the reason this pairing isn’t an eyesore like some may be is due to the fact that the dress has a cooler undertone with tints of mauve under the taupe color. The trench duster is not too warm but not warm enough to have any blue tones in the baby pink. Because there is a mixture of tones, this outfit goes well with gold, silver, or rose gold accessories.

Another reason the colors of the outfit do not clash is because the black OTK boots (and my dark hair) in addition to my tan from spring break help balance out the lighter colors. The contrast helps ground the look and prevent me from looking like a walking cotton candy stick. If I was my winter skin tone or if my hair was lighter, the look would not tie together as well as it does at the moment.

Despite my itchy nose, runny eyes, and swollen face from allergies (as you can probably tell from these photos), I’m excited that spring is here! I can’t wait to visit my local botanical gardens and see all beautiful flowers, of course after popping some Zyrtec and packing some Kleenex. Who knows, maybe I’ll even take you along with me!

Have a wonderful rest of your week, mes chéries. I’ll talk to you all very soon. Au revoir!
